STANDARD 1 - KNOW STUDENTS AND HOW THEY LEARN
1.5.2 - Develop teaching and learning activities that incorporate differentiated strategies to meet the specific learning needs of students across the full range of abiliities
I have selected this resource as it shows the ways I have incorporated differentiation into my teaching. This was a year 7 technology class, who were introduced into textiles. The first couple of lessons were spent on OHS and ongaurd safety training, as well as follow up lessons on the basics of the sewing machine and a number of other tools and equipment they would use in the unit of work. Once they had the basics under control, we begun work on the machines.
From the get go, some students were more skillful than others, due to the care taken and their high levels of fine motor skills. As a result I introduced some worksheets to the kids to practice their sewing. There was no thread involved, just simply a needle and feeding the worksheets through the machines, to form a line of holes. The students still grasping the idea of the sewing machines would take the box worksheet, whereas the children with higher levels of skill could choose from the connect the dots activities.
