Maintain Student Safety
4.4.2
Ensure Students well being and safety within school by implementing school and/or system, curriculum and legislative requirements
This lesson plan was chosen to demonstrate professional practice in the workshop. it highlights the use of legislation which is compulsory to be taught before being able to use machinery and tools in the workshop. In this case the textiles lab. This was again for a year 7 class who were being introduced into the textiles unit of work. It is required they complete the ongaurd training in the textiles field before using sewing machines, irons, needles and a couple of other dangerous tools. In this specific lesson, I used the smart board to get the kids to produce a mind map of safety related practices in a textiles workshop, while questioning them about these ideas and why they are important in the workshop. This was followed up with a poster which the students had to create, to promote safety in the workshop. This ensured the students understood the safety rules and regulations in the workshop and as a result would have the ability to demonstrate this knowledge come practical time in the textiles labs. At the end of the day, the health and well being of students is the number one priority in the classroom.
